GALLIPOLI GAMES 2015

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE GALLIPOLI GAMES
AND THE ORGANISATION?

For the last century, the spirit displayed during the Battle of Çanakkale has provided messages of hope and peace for the world. The 100th year anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli - known worldwide as the "gentlemen's war" - carries profound importance for the countries that fought.

The concept of the Gallipoli Games has arisen from this spirit. The inaugural Games will be held in the city of Çanakkale and will take place every two years.

The Gallipoli Games carries with it immense meaning, and will allow, through sport, the ability to honour those who lost their lives in war, as well foster ongoing friendships between the participating countries.

The theme of the Games is one of peace, and carries with it the motto: “On the land their ancestors sacrificed their lives 100 years ago, they are now competing for peace.” The Games will bring together university student athletes from Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, India, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

In 2015, the athletes will compete in: 3x3 basketball, triathlons, cross-country, swimming, sailing, tennis, beach volleyball, cycling and rugby.
